Denmark Sevens

Meet the Danish team for Odense Sevens 2012

Christian B. Nielsen, prop

22 years-old, Holstebro Rugby Klub
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
It’s great that we will be playing against such good players on our home field!!!
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
I would like to test my own abilities against those of the other teams.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
I will be looking very much forward to playing against England.
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
I would say that Thomas definitely spends the most time in front of the mirror (pretty boy)

Thomas Graagaard, fly-half/centre
20 years-old, Holstebro Rugby Klub
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
It’s fantastic to be able play the EC at home. It means that we will be getting loads of support from friends and family. It is also a chance to show Denmark what rugby actually is.
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
My personal goal for the tournament is to score at least one try.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
It would be great to play against England! But also against Spain, who won the last Odense tournament.
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
Definitely Christian Nielsen who is the team biggest pretty boy.

Christian V.  Pedersen, scrum-half/flyer

23 years-old, Aalborg Rugby Klub
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
First of all I feel very proud of representing Denmark in such a large tournament. However, I've had my nervous moments thinking about playing some of the best sevens teams in the world. All in all, I expect Odense 2012 to be a fantastic experience.
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
My personal goal is to play up to my best and challenge some of the other teams in attack, and mabye score a few tries :)
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
England
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
Alexander Østergaard closely followed by Oliver le Roux

Andy Nielsen, prop/centre

29 years-old, Aarhus Rugby Klub
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
Playing a European Championship is always something special. My 2nd tournament for the Danish Sevens team back in 2003 was the European Championships in Heidelberg. But back then the 6 nations countries did not participate. Hosting all the biggest countries with lots of support from danish rugby enthusiasts will be one of the biggest experiences I've had in my rugby career.
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
My personal goal will be to do my best for the team, so the bigger rugbycountries like England, France, Portugal etc. realize that we actually have a lot of potential here in Denmark. Personally I will try to make up for any differences between us and them by putting in some extra "viking" heart.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
I'm actually looking the most forward to playing with Denmark. When we play and train together it feels like we're a family.
But if I have to say one team it will probably be Portugal. I like the way they play 7's rugby and the way they have improved over the last decade to becoming one of the best 7's teams in Europe. But in 7's anything can happen, and we did actually beat them a couple of years ago in a close game.
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
That's a hard call. I would say Alex spends the most time doing his hair, and Josh spends the most time admiring his 6-pack

Kasper Vad Pedersen, prop/hooker

31 years-old, Aarhus Rugby Klub
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
Playing the EC is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, event in my rugby career. And playing it on Danish turf only makes it better!
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
My personal goal is to play the best rugby of my career. To be able to look myself in the mirror and say, you couldn't have done it better! And of course to slot a try against some of the best 7's players in the world.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
I look forward to playing all of the teams there. All of our games are gonna be big games!
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
Alex must be the player that spends the most time in front of the mirror! And Josh! Maybe Krelli? Or Andy? ;)

Joshua Jensen, prop/fly-half/centre

22 years-old, CSR/Nanok
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
It's amazing and that we also get to play against England I can't wait.
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
Out score Alex and also get 1 turnover a game.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
England.
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
Most time in front of the mirror would be Andy Welson Nielson, (must take some time to get that fake tan right) or maybe Kasper because he falls into his deep blue eyes.

Kristoffer Vandborg, centre/prop

Oliver Le Roux, flyer

-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
My personal goals are to score some good tries against the big teams like England and so on!
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
I’m pretty sure that would be me :D

Bradley Diamandis, scrum-half/fly-half
31 years-old, Rugbyklubben Speed
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
It's great! It’s a massive event for everyone involved in Danish Rugby, particularly the players. We have the chance to measure ourselves against the best Sevens players in Europe, so we’re all looking forward to it. Hopefully there will be a lot of home support which will give the team a major boost.
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
I would like to get a couple of tries and have a 75% conversion success rate.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
We have played against several of the top sevens teams in Europe but I think playing against England would be special.
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
It's at toss-up between Alex and Oliver, but I'll go for Alex - the guy can't get enough of himself!

Alexander Østergaard, prop/hooker
22 years-old, Rugbyklubben Speed
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
I really can’t wait! Playing such great teams and with the home crowd to back us up will be somewhat of an experience!
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
Out-score Josh… sorry Oliver (I need an actual challenge)!
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
England - without a doubt.
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
I would have to say Oliver and I am sure he will admit it himself. There are rumors his hair might be radioactive from all the gel he uses.

Dominick Wilson, scrum-half/fly-half
29 years-old, Barnes RFC
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
Every time I play for Denmark it is a massive honour, but I always enjoy playing at home more than anything. It is exciting for our home crowd to finally see this 7s team play and I hope we can make them proud.
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
Not to disappoint Nico.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
England :)
-Which player from the Danish team spends most time in front of the mirror?
Andy Nielsen, you don't get that pretty without some work.

Andreas Robertson, captain, prop/centre
21 years-old, Nottingham Trent University
-How do you feel about playing the European Championship in Denmark?
I am extremely excited to be playing in front of a home crowd, and proud to be able to represent Denmark in Odense.
-What is your personal goal for this tournament?
A goal for this tournament is to expand the popularity of rugby in Denmark and show the more established nations that we can be just as good as them in the not to distant future.
-Which team do you look the most forward to playing against?
Well obviously England would be a great experience, but equally I look forward to playing against Lithuania who in the past have tried to physically bully us off the field. We have improved so much that it will be us doing the bullying - especially Christian ‘Bobby’ Nielsen!!
-Which player from the Dk team spends most time in front of the mirror?
That would have to be Ollie Le Roux have you seen his hair, it never moves!!

Nicolai Kipp

National coach, Denmark
I've been looking forward to this tournament since we played in Poland in May and not quite got the result that we were expecting.
Playing at home against the best teams in Europe is the perfect opportunity for us to show everyone, what the Vikings are all about.
We don't just see this tournament as a chance to play against some good teams and gain experience - we are here to win matches!
